Deke is currently President of DKS Information Consulting, LLC and Executive Director of the Academic Interoperability Coalition (AiC), a group of 70 universities worldwide seeking to improve BIM education. The leadership of the AiC collaborated on "Developing BIM Talent." Deke was the Executive Director of the buildingSMART alliance™ until 2015, the North American Chapter of buildingSMART International at the time when he co-authored his original book on BIM. He was also on the Executive Committee of buildingSMART International. buildingSMART for ten years. He remains focused on improving construction productivity through open standards supporting interoperability and improved decision-making using building information modeling (BIM). The goal is to eliminate non-value-added effort or waste in the facilities industry.

His first co-authored book "Building Information Modeling: A Strategic Implementation Guide," published in 2009 by Wiley, is still receiving critical acclaim.
