Leigh Ann Craig is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Virginia Commonwealth University. She earned her PhD in medieval history from The Ohio State University in 2001. Her research interests have bridged the social history of religion and the histories of disability and of medicine in medieval Latin Europe. She is the author of Wandering Women and Holy Matrons: Women as Pilgrims in the Later Middle Ages, 1300-1500 (Brill, 2009) and Deprived of Sense and Intellect: Insanity, Possession, and Diagnosis in Medieval Europe, 1240-1500 (University of Michigan Press, 2026). She is now initiating a project on the history of rabies in late medieval Paris, a topic encompassing issues of medieval medicine, religion, ethics, public health, and environmental studies. Dr. Craig is a winner of the VCU College of Humanities and Sciences Distinguished Teaching Award.
