Jennie Feldman

Jennie Feldman was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1952, moved to England as a child and was raised in London. She was awarded a university scholarship to study French at St Hilda's College, Oxford, and in 1974 graduated with a First. In 1975 she moved to Israel and worked as a producer and presenter of radio documentary programmes. Her radio awards include a Silver Medal from the International Film Producers of America (1982) and a Gold Medal in the International Radio Festival of New York (1990). She has taught on the Graduate Program in Creative Writing at Bar Ilan University, and lectured on translation at Haifa University. Her first collection of poems, The Lost Notebook, was shortlisted for the Glen Dimplex New Writers Award for Poetry 2006 (Ireland), and one of the poems was placed as Highly Commended in the Forward Book of Poetry 2006 (UK). Into the Deep Street: Seven Modern French Poets 1938-2008, a bilingual anthology edited and translated with Stephen Romer, was awarded a Special Commendation by the judges of the 2011 Corneliu Popescu Prize for Translation. Married with two children, she shares her time between Jerusalem and Oxford. She is a Hawthornden Fellow.
