Marshall William McMurran

Mac McMurran (1930- ) Graduated from college long ago with a BS Mathematics/Chemical Engineering, Oregon State. Was a Distinguished Military Graduate, a USAF Meteorologist and flight forecaster, 1952-1955 at Hamilton AFB, California, Kunsan AB, Korea, and Hill AFB, Utah.

Had fun simulating the Autonetics N6A Navigator gyro compassing performance prior to the historic Nautilus under-pole voyage in 1958, then programmed the digital general-purpose real-time control of an inertial navigation system. (Likely the first ever program of this kind.) Laid in the control program for the Hound Dog missile system that was the basis for the later Polaris and Poseidon shipboard navigation programs. Was instrumental in defining the configuration of the Minuteman I digital flight computer (D-17). Laid out and programmed the Minuteman I flight and ground control programs that carried over to Minuteman II and III.

Along the way, earned the right to the title of California Professional Engineer, Control Systems.Had years of fun as a Flight Instructor and Commercial Pilot. Retired as Chief Engineer of the Rockwell Semiconductor Division.
