Robert E. Sanders is Professor Emeritus in the Communication Department, University at Albany, State University of New York. In his 2021 book, "The Work and Workings of Human Communication," he tackles such issues as what is distinctively human about our communication, how we make it work, why it is the essential tool for creating and participating in the material and social infrastructures of our human-made environment, and how we go about studying it. Robert’s thinking about these matters has evolved from his studies of the intricacies of language and nonverbal expression that people utilize strategically in social interactions to influence others as they engage in the tasks and activities of everyday life.
