Jay Eacker

My name is Jay Eacker. I am pictured here with my wife, Barbara Jones. I have skied for over thirty years but did not start until I was over forty years of age. (You can do the math). I am a professor emeritus and hold a doctorate in general experimental psychology. I have written two books on philosophical issues in psychology that, in the language of David Hume, "fell still-born from the presses"; no one, apparently, was interested. I have written It's About Skiing And Not The Skis for an audience composed of skiers, ski teachers, and behavior analysts. Skiers will find it of interest because it gives them a sense of the "romance of skiing", that is, what is happening when they ski or take a ski lesson. Ski teachers will find it of interest because it puts in to words what they put in to practice when they give a lesson. And, behavior analysts will find it of interest because it presents a somewhat different perspective on why a reinforcer is reinforcing.
