Michael Anketell

Michael Anketell created The California Fashion Industry Friend's of APLA in 1987. His shows included: Adrian: A Retrospective, Geoffrey Beene: 25th Anniversary, Bob Mackie: A Retrospective, The Best of Hollywood Costume Designers, Gianni Versace: The Man and His Art, Thierry Mugler: A Retrospective, Calvin Klein and Tina Turner at the Hollywood Bowl, Isaac Mizrahi and k.d. lang at the Chinese Theater, Gianfranco Ferre and Liza Minnelli, Todd Oldham: A Retrospective and Nicole Miller: A Retrospective. His first book, Heavenly Bodies: Remembering Hollywood and Fashion's Favorite AIDS Benefit was published in 1999 by Taylor Publishing and was met with critical acclaim. He began his fashion career as a fashion copywriter for Robinsons-May Deprtment Stores in Los Angeles and moved quickly into television where he was a wardrobe consultant at both CBS and NBC. He is credited with marrying fashion and celebrity long before it became so widely popular. He has taught at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) and has written articles for POZ Magazine. He is currently editing his collection of shows for general release on DVD and Blue-ray.
