I received my natural sciences, psychology, and anthropology education from the University of Oslo - ending with a DrScient and a DrPhilos in biology. I have worked as a chief scientist at the Division of Mental Health, Norwegian Institute of Public Health and as a professor or scientist at various universities in Norway, the United States, and Japan. Most of my scientific publications address the process of evolution. My main interest has been to understand how that process formed the human brain, but I have also published in other fields of biology, including genetics and virology.
In addition to some 160 scientific papers, I have authored 12 science books (in English or Norwegian) as well as five novels (in Norwegian). The texts have focused on how biological insight can help us understand ourselves, and thus improve quality of life. I consequently use the title Happiness Biologist. The key part of my work is listed on my web page grinde dot one.
