James Dean: Words and Images presents a new approach to the iconic symbol of restless youth. Poetic text and the painted image interract to create an emotional perspective of a man who left us tragically soon yet whose aura remained and grew into a cultural force that we witness still. Written and illustrated by Douglas Allen, 1956-present. Mr Allen was born in Massachusetts and moved to New York as a teen. He would later attend and graduate from Manhattan's School of Visual Arts. His deep interest in the legacy and allure of James Dean dates back decades and has always returned to the question of what might this uniquely gifted actor have brought to the world had he lived on. Mr Allen's dream of seeking a way to personalize and enhance the reader's perspective was the culmination of this book. He hopes the public will find it comprises a fresh approach to James Byron Dean and to the memory of a talent who went before us and yet who continues to challenge our collective imagination.
