William E. Marks

William Waterway Marks investigated fish kills and industrial polluters while in college, successfully having a major industry indicted by a Federal Grand Jury. After college he toured Europe and Northwest Africa, including the Sahara Desert. Upon return to the U.S., he worked as Senior Environmental Analyst for the city of Newark before resigning to live outside for two-years while undertaking a 7,500 mile horseback trek across America. He entitled this quixotic trek - "RIDE FOR NATURE". While riding across America he visited countless water locations, worked on ranches and farms, lived on Native American Reservations, and spoke at universities and other venues.

He is founder of Martha's Vineyard's first State-Certified water testing laboratory; founded Vineyard Environmental Research, Institute, and the Martha's Vineyrd Poetry Society. His water research has been featured in National Geographic; CNN; MSNBC; MVTV; CBS; NBC; ABC; NPR; UPI; New Zealand National Radio; AP; New York Times; the Water Encyclopedia; Alternet; Care2.com; Digital Journalist; MaximsNews, and other media.

William Waterway Marks is featured in the "For Love Of Water" film, as well as other films and TV shows, and is the author of essays published in magazines and books such as articles in John Wiley & Sons' "Water Encyclopedia"; National Geographic's "Written in Water, Messages of Hope For Earth's Most Precious Resource" - and is author of "The Holy Order of Water, Healing Earth's Waters and Ourselves"; the new ebook: "Water Cycle, New Definition as Waterway Cycle," and, "The History of Wind Power on Martha's Vineyard". He is editor/author of the United Nations' affiliated, "Water Voices from Around The World", and founder of "Martha's Vineyard Magazine"; "Nantucket Magazine".

Awards: USEPA's Citizen Activist Award; the Groundwater Guardian Award, from the Groundwater Foundation; the international "Water Hero Award", from World Water Rescue Foundation; Ambassador For Peace Award for his work with the United Nations relative to water, and the "2012 Gratitude of the Waters Award."
