William M. McGovern

Monty (William) McGovern received his Ph.D. in mathematics from M.I.T. in 1987, under the supervision of David Vogan; he specializes in the representation theory of semisimple Lie groups and algebras. He is currently Professor of Mathematics at the University of Washington, where he has been since 1990. He has written "Nilpotent orbits in semisimple Lie algebras" with his colleague David Collingwood, published by Chapman and Hall in 1993; the article "The Adjoint Representation and the Adjoint Action in the Encyclopedia of Mathematicsl Sciences, volume 131, in the subseries "Invariant Theory and Algebraic Transformation Groups", published by Springer in 2002; and most recently "Representation theory and geometry of the flag variety", published by de Gruyter in 2022..
