Larry C. Kerpelman

Larry C. Kerpelman was born in Baltimore, Maryland. After graduating at the tender age of 19 from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, he went on to earn a doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Rochester. His long professional career has encompassed research, teaching, and consulting in human behavior and public policy issues. Retiring as Vice-President and Director of Corporate Communications after a 30 year career at a major public policy research and consulting firm in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he now spends much of his time writing and editing.

His writing reflects his widely varied personal interests and educational background. His most recent book "Concrete Steps: Coming of Age in a Once-Big City," recounts his family, friends, neighborhood, and education, work, and life experiences starting from his birth in Baltimore until he left it 19 years later. The memoir interweaves the events and spirit of a pivotal time in history with his own story. His previously published books include "Pieces Missing: A Family's Journey of Recovery from Traumatic Brain Injury," "Activists and Non-activists: A Psychological Study of American College Students," and, as co-editor, another on methods of teaching mathematics. Two of his stories have appeared in recently published "Chicken Soup for the Soul" anthologies.

He has also published articles in both popular publications, such as "American History," "The Boston Globe," "The Urbanite," "HealthWorks," and "GreenPrints," and in professional journals, among them "The Journal of the American Medical Association," "Physicians News Digest", "The Chronicle of Higher Education," and "Journal of Counseling Psychology." He received the prestigious Lamplighter Award from the New England Society for Healthcare Communications for his writing.
