Brian McConnell

Brian McConnell, UE, B.A. (Hons.), LL.B is a retired lawyer as well as a genealogist, historian, and heritage volunteer who has authored 14 nonfiction books.

Books about United Empire Loyalists by him include "Loyalist History of Nova Scotia", "Old St. Edward's Church & the Loyalists", "Loyalists of Digby", "Loyalist Cemeteries & Gravestones of Nova Scotia", and "The United Empire Loyalists & You".

As well he has authored books related to family research including "Canada's Ulster Scots". It was reviewed in Familia, the Journal of the Ulster Historical Foundation, and described as "This book would make a very presentable and informative gift for Canadians with Ulster relatives and for Ulster folk with Canadian relatives, both of which are legion."

He is the grandson of an Ulsterman who was wounded in the 1916 Easter Rebellion and served with the Royal Irish Fusiliers in WWI. In 2022, he authored a book about him entitled "To Join the Ulster Division" which has been reviewed as an "absolutely brilliant book" and "well researched."

He has also researched several fraternal organizations and authored "The Royal Black Knights in Canada, "The L.O.B.A. in Canada", about the Ladies Orange Benevolent Association, and "1892", a reference book for genealogical and historical research on the Loyal Orange Association and Orange Lodges in Canada.

His most recent book, published in 2023, entitled "The First Church - Old Holy Trinity in Middleton, Nova Scotia", is about a Nova Scotia heritage property constructed in 1789.

In 2016 he was presented with a Certificate for Volunteer Service by the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia and in 2022 was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Medal.
