Kathryn Phillips is a life-long educator, psychologist, speaker and writer. With more than forty years of work in education, her expertise ranges all areas and concerns of behavioral issues. Ms. Phillips' expertise includes classroom behavior management, response to intervention, and working successfully with parents. She has special expertise in working with students who have ADHD, executive functioning difficulties and emotional regulation issues.
In 2000, after 25 years working in a variety of schools, Kathryn launched a career in public speaking, consultation, book writing and providing workshops. Topics include behavior management, PBIS, conflict resolution, proactive discipline, drug affected students, crisis intervention and traumatized children. For several years, she was an expert witness for criminal trials on behaviors disorders. Other positions have included; assistant director of special education, 504 coordinator, school psychologist, assistant principal and adjunct professor for Lewis and Clark College in Portland OR.
Kathryn was born in San Diego, CA and raised in Oregon by educator parents. She did her undergraduate work in at Arizona State University and the University of London. She has a masters in school administration and a masters in school psychology and counseling.
Ms. Phillips speaks your language. Each of her books are based on what today's teachers need with practical interventions that are evidence based and well-researched. She has a unique ability to take complicated concepts and put them into common sense language so that educators can feel confident that the strategies included in her books are best practices, modeled after good educational theory, well-researched, simple and effective.
Kathryn has field tested many of the ideas in her books with students from one room schoolhouses to urban high schools across North America. Speaking engagements have taken her across the globe as she has worked with more than 100,000 teachers in a variety of settings, populations, and cultural backgrounds.
