Paperback. Condition: Very Good. 1996 Paladin paperback edition. Light reading wear else very good condition. San Shou Kung Fu of the Chinese Red Army reveals closely guarded secrets of Chinese kung fu. To create this martial art, the Chinese military's Department of Enemy Studies brought together fighting arts experts from each of China's provinces to compare their forms and techniques. It also trained Chinese soldiers in other foreign martial arts and hand-to-hand combat styles and pitted them against each other in order to evaluate their effectiveness. From these evaluations came the standardized form of San Shou kung fu now taught in the elite military and police academies of China. Later, he learned San Shou kung fu from soldiers of the famous 49th Red Army of northern China, whose soldiers are known for their fighting skills. After going to Canada to further his medical career, Hui was surprised by the poor quality of martial arts taught in the West, as well as the misconceptions about what kung fu is and isn't. In this book, Hui combines his early street experiences, his special forces training, and his knowledge of the human anatomy to form a unique fighting art. He also exposes the overcomplicated and unrealistic techniques that often pass for self-defense and shows how ordinary people and martial artists of all levels can use kickboxing, grappling, and wrestling skills of San Shou kung fu to defeat stronger opponents.…
