Velda Piff Metalmann

At the age of 87, after 67 years of being a “college sophomore” Velda Metelmann decided to return to university to attain a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts. Encouraged by her family and friends, she continued advanced education, earning a master’s degree in liberal arts, followed by a Master of Science focused on world hunger and patriarchy’s influence in the present social condition.

The Bahá’í Faith is an ongoing motivation for her life and is the reason she spent about 23 years in Denmark. Her book on the Bahá’í heroine, Lua Getsinger is still available on Amazon. She enjoys speaking in public. Metelmann was twice married and twice widowed with both marriages lasting longer than 30 years. She enjoys an active life with many friends, and lives alone with a 17-year-old cat and a 13-year-old dog.
