Jacqueline Vanhoutte

Jacqueline Vanhoutte, a native Belgian, received her B.A. from Carleton College and her Ph.D. from the University of Washington. She is currently Professor of English and University Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of North Texas, where she also chairs the English Department. Jacque published her first book, Strange Communion: Motherland and Masculinity in Tudor Plays, Pamphlets and Politics, with the University of Delaware Press in 2003. A Companion to Chaucer and His Contemporaries, in collaboration with Laurel Amtower, came out with Broadview in 2009. Jacque published her third book, Age in Love: Shakespeare and the Elizabethan Court, with the University of Nebraska Press in 2019. Her essays on early English drama have appeared in multiple venues, including Comparative Drama, Philological Quarterly, and ELR: English Literary Renaissance.

When she’s not teaching or writing about Shakespeare, Jacque enjoys traveling, reading detective novels, taking her Labrador for long walks, and cooking elaborate meals for her friends and family. Jacque lives in Corinth, Texas, with her husband Alex Pettit, their daughter Claire, and their dog Cleopatra, named after Shakespeare’s most memorable heroine.
