I was born in Portland Oregon and grew up with two older brothers. When I was eight years old, our parents caravanned in two cars and U-Haul trailers through California deserts to Scottsdale Arizona, leaving snow behind and finding the hot sun!
I attended the University of Arizona pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Fate brought me to California with a passion to find work in the art field. I found work in advertising agencies, became a school bus driver, art teacher, sign painter/carver, muralist and mascot artist. While on scaffolding, painting interior and exterior walls, I thought up stories to illustrate for children. My goal was to educate with fun stories and bright colored art.
My husband and I saved for a two-year trip, following the equator overland, visiting other continents. In Botswana we sat in a Baobab Tree. The people told us legends about living around the lonely trees on the wide desert plains. I knew it would be a good story, and soon my book, "The Legend of the African Baobab Tree" was written!
"Op Locks, Goldilocks and the Three Bears" was written in a condensed version of the well-known story, shortening words and phrases into nearly a new language.
‘Scarecrows in the Garden’ came to me as an A-to-Z book about fruits and veggies, so children could see how plants grow before they are picked and eaten.
"Dinosaur Dreams and Ice Cream" was thought up and drawn out from a story once told to me by a dear friend. I have acknowledged her in the book.
"Finding the Light" is our family story about seeing Bruce Munro’s "Field of Light" exhibition in Australia and bringing some outdoor light concepts to Paso Robles, California.
Some Upcoming Projects:
"Savannah’s Family Farm" will develop into an organic seasonal family farm experience.
"Peg Palace" is an upcoming story written in chapters, with my grandchildren’s dreams and artwork of their Pegacorn pals.
"Color me Awesome" will be a book about finding self-esteem.
"Amulets for Running Bear" is an old legend I heard from a native American friend.
I am excited to get my stories and art into the hands of children around the world!
