John Catsis (1933----) was born in Evanston, Illinois to Greek immigrant parents. His father was what we today would call "undocumented." John attended local schools and the Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism. Following military service he worked as a reporter and anchor in broadcast news, in small and large television markets, including WBBM in Chicago, KYW in Philadelphia, plus KPRC and KHOU in Houston. He won an award from the Houston Junior Chamber of Commerce for a series of automobile repair reports that resulted in two criminal fraud convictions against a local Sears department store.
Later, he became an associate professor at the Oklahoma State University School of Journalism and Broadcasting. There he wrote "Sports Broadcasting," America's first-ever textbook on the subject. This was followed by three other books, including "Fulltimers," plus hundreds of magazine articles, published in major national magazines. He is now working on three memoirs from his home in Silver City, New Mexico.
