Karla Downing

Karla grew up in a dysfunctional home with an alcoholic agnostic father and a Baptist mother where she took on the role of the responsible child and the voice of reason. Thinking her solution to happiness was marriage, she married her husband at age twenty not realizing the dysfunction in their childhoods would follow them into their marriage. She put all her energy into fixing her marriage until she let go and turned what she had learned in the process into her writing and teaching. During those years, Karla struggled with reconciling what she heard in the church with what she was learning about healthy relationships. This drives Karla's passion to teach practical biblical truths to those in difficult relationships who are desperate to find biblically-based solutions. Karla has a unique ability to blend her marriage and family therapy experience with her personal experience into practical tools for Christians in difficult relationships. Thousands of people all over the world have been reached through her books, classes, studies, speaking, videos, Facebook posts, articles and more. Karla's first book "10 Lifesaving Principles for Women in Difficult Marriages" was awarded the Silver Medallion from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association.
