John W. Pryor

Dr John W. Pryor is an Australian scholar with degrees from Sydney, London and Cambridge Universities. John is a former lecturer at Ridley College, Melbourne, and has had a long career teaching in seminaries and universities in Australia, India and Fiji. His lifelong interest in the historical Jesus and the gospels stems from his postgraduate studies in Cambridge under the supervision of the late Dr Ernst Bammel. In recent years, leading study tours to Israel has been a special passion, opening up to tour participants the fresh insights into Jesus and his ministry that can be gleaned from recent archaeological finds.

Aligning himself with the evangelical wing of the Anglican church, John is a born communicator who delights in encouraging his students and readers to think laterally, to question the traditional answers, and not to be threatened by the challenge of new ideas. For a number of years after retiring as diocesan registrar, John divided his time between researching and writing, and managing his family beef cattle farm in Victoria. More recently John and his family moved to Bowral in NSW where John continues his academic pursuits, leads Israel study tours and local parish study groups as well as serves as guest lecturer in Fiji.

John is the author of the following books (i) John : Evangelist of the Covenant People (InterVarsity 1992); (ii) The Enigmatic Jew - in quest of the historical Jesus (Createspace 2011), (iii) Jesus Resurrected? - sifting the historical evidence (Createspace 2011), (iv) Jesus Reburied? The Mysteries of the Jesus family tomb (Wipf and Stock 2013) and (v) From Darkness to Light - foundational studies in the Gospel of John (KDP 2020). John has also written many published articles and unpublished conference papers.
