John Cunyus is a free-lance writer. He
spent thirty-six years in ordained ministry,
serving churches in Texas, becoming
involved at the same time with the
non-denominational "Latin Testament
Project."
In 2008, Cunyus and Searchlight Press
began a full-scale translation of St. Jerome's
Vulgate Bible into American English.
Incorporating the latest textual advances
from Roger Gryson of the German Bible
Society, Cunyus and Searchlight set out to
craft an edition that would capture both the
vigor and simplicity of Saint Jerome's late
4th Century CE classic.
Each volume contains introductory materials
to both the Vulgate as a whole and to the
individual books translated. Cunyus
explains the history of the Vulgate and, more
importantly, why a Vulgate translation
matters today.
