I was born in Oklahoma and earned a BA and a MA from the University of Oklahoma. In addition to Oklahoma, I have lived in California, Texas, Utah, Colorado, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina and Ohio.
I have traveled throughout the United States, Mexico, Europe and Israel. My favorite places are the Old City in Jerusalem; Santorini, Greece; Padstow, Cornwall; Dingle Bay, Ireland; Prague; Brugges; the Crazy Mountains in Montana; and my back porch in North Carolina.
I have worked as a cowhand, wrangler, bodyguard, roustabout, model, and truck driver. I was an Artist-in-Residence in Oklahoma. For 21 years I taught English and journalism at Averett University.
I live in North Carolina with my wife, Jenne Fitzgerald. She is an artist and did the cover and the photo for my latest novel. We have a Golden Retriever named Bentley and a cat of undetermined origin named Ethyl.
