Jane Lydon

Jane Lydon is an Australian archaeologist and historian who is concerned with imperial history and its legacies. She is Professor and Wesfarmers Chair of Australian History at The University of Western Australia. She worked as an archaeologist for fifteen years, and her 2009 book “Fantastic Dreaming: The Archaeology of an Aboriginal Mission” won two professional prizes - the John Mulvaney Book Award, and the Graham Connah Award. Her books about Indigenous Australians, photography and colonization include “The Flash of Recognition: Photography and the emergence of Indigenous rights” which won the 2013 Queensland History Book Award, and "Photography, Humanitarianism, Empire". Most recently, “Imperial Emotions: The Politics of Empathy across the British Empire” explores the emotional politics of colonization.
