I wrote this makeup book with the first year theatre student in mind. All of the photos in this book were my students at a private 4 year university in Illinois. I have been involved in theatre since I was in high school and had some great theatre teachers in college and grad school. As a costume designer, I found it invaluable to know how to do makeup and hair. This book is not intended to be the final answer on every makeup issue, but rather a beginners guidebook to learning some basics about how to create a character. So, I hope that serious students of design and, in particular, of makeup and hair will research all the available (and out-of-print) makeup design books out there--you can learn a lot by broadening your understanding of the subject.
