Kitty Kelly Epstein

Kitty Kelly Epstein is an academic, an author, the host of a radio show, and an urban activist. After earning her doctorate at U.C. Berkeley, she taught teachers and doctoral students and helped to create programs to diversify the teaching force. She led a thousand-person participatory action process for the incoming mayoral administration of former congressman Ron Dellums, and then served on his policy staff. She hosts a show on urban issues and education on Pacifica radio station, KPFA 94.1 FM, and she was the 2013 winner of the Urban Affairs Association-SAGE Marilyn Gittell Activist Scholar Lecture Series and Award. She serves on the board of the Urban Affairs Association and the Oakland Emiliano Zapata Street Academy. But her biggest life event was the precious opportunity to nurture her remarkable son, a kind, gentle, and accomplished person.

Kitty has written four books: Changing Academia Forever: Black Students analyze the Movement They Led; A Different View of Urban Schools: Civil Rights, Critical Race Theory and Unexplored Realities (2 editions); and Organizing to Change a City
