Jay Baglia

Jay Baglia, PhD (University of South Florida, 2003) is an assistant professor in the College of Communication at DePaul University in Chicago, IL. He teaches courses in Health Communication, Performance Theory, Communication & Gender, Body Politics, Nonverbal Communication, Illness Narratives, Health Disparities, & Health Literacy.

His 2005 book, THE VIAGRA AD VENTURE: MASCULINITY, MEDIA, and the PERFORMANCE of SEXUAL HEALTH, was the winner of the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language, and Gender (OSCLG) Book of the Year Award in 2006 and was selected as the Distinguished Book for 2012 by the Health Communication Division of the National Communication Association.

Jay conducts workshops in health literacy, patient-centered medicine, systems theory, critical thinking, intercultural communication, and adult learning in the medical education field.

His most recent publication is a co-edited volume of pregnancy loss narratives titled COMMUNICATING PREGNANCY LOSS: NARRATIVE AS A METHOD FOR CHANGE (with Rachel Silverman, PhD).

Dr. Baglia lives in Chicago with his partner, end-of-life and interpersonal communication scholar Elissa Foster, PhD and their daughter.
