Elliott Seif, Ph.D. is currently an advocate for a "lifelong learning" approach to teaching and learning that fosters greater student success and prepares them for a lifetime of learning in a rapidly changing world. He is also an educational consultant, author, and school volunteer. His most recent book is entitled "Teaching for Lifelong Learning: How to Prepare Students for a Changing World", published by Solution Tree Press. He received a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Harvard University and a doctorate from Washington University, St. Louis in curriculum research and development.
Prior to his retirement as a full time educator, he was a secondary school teacher, a Professor of Education at Temple University, and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction Services for the Bucks County Intermediate Unit, an educational service agency for Bucks County, PA. At the Bucks County Intermediate Unit, he provided leadership in curriculum and instruction training and reform and developed, led and/or participated in over 50 program reviews for Bucks County school districts.
He was also a member of the ASCD Understanding by Design (UbD) cadre and the ASCD UbD faculty, where he assisted numerous schools and school districts throughout the United States and abroad in using UbD to improve educational practice. He also co-taught ASCD UbD Professional Development Institutes with Jay McTighe.
He is the author of many books, handbooks, articles, commentaries and reports, including a book on open education and a textbook on the teaching of elementary social studies. Published articles include “Reviving Social Studies” and “You Can Teach for Meaning” (with Jay McTighe and Grant Wiggins) in Educational Leadership, the journal of ASCD. He and Jay McTighe also co-authored a chapter in a book for Solution Tree Press -“21st Century Skills: Rethinking How Students Learn”.
He received many awards for his accomplishments: from the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), the Pennsylvania Association of Intermediate Units (PAIU), the Pennsylvania Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (PASCD), and the Bucks County Schools.
