Robert Loce was a Research Fellow at PARC, a Xerox Company, leading projects in the area of computer vision applied to surveillance and transportation. The surveillance technologies were aimed at delivering cost-effective safety and security through the detection of particular behaviors as observed by camera networks. His team’s work in intelligent transportation systems aimed at improving roadway safety and efficiency through computer vision monitoring of roadways. A significant portion of Bob’s earlier career at Xerox was devoted to development of image processing methods for color electronic printing.
Dr. Loce received a Ph.D. in Imaging Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology, becoming the first in the U.S. and possibly the world to receive a Ph.D. in Imaging Science. He has an M.S. in Optics from University of Rochester, and a B.S. in Photographic Science from RIT. He is a registered patent agent, and in the fields of image processing, video processing, optics and printing he has been awarded over 250 US patents and is an inventor on many foreign patents. He has recently completed editing and co-authoring "Computer Vision and Imaging in Intelligent Transportation Systems." He has also authored 30 refereed journal papers, 60 conference publications, one book, eight book chapters and milestone publications. He is a Fellow of SPIE and a Senior member of IEEE.
In his spare time, Bob enjoys mountain climbing. He is a member of the Rochester Winter Mountaineering Society, and an ADK Winter 46’er.
