Stephen D. Unwin

Hailing from Manchester, U.K., Stephen D. Unwin is a scientist, author and humorist, best known for his book The Probability of God, which has been a touchstone of debate around the world. After receiving the attention of the international press, the book was translated into German, Spanish, Turkish, and Russian, and was perhaps best publicized in the Richard Dawkins book The God Delusion and Sir Robert Winston’s BBC documentary, The History of God.

A sought-after public speaker on topics from existential risk to leprechauns, he explains and provokes audiences with wit and uncannily accessible explanations of topics meant to be complicated. His 2018 TEDx talk titled Existing Isn’t Everything gave stature and confidence to nonexistent things and they continue to send him kind messages of gratitude. Unwin holds a Ph.D. in theoretical physics and currently lives on Bainbridge Island in Puget Sound.
