Warren M. Sherk

Warren M. Sherk created the definitive reference work, "Film and Television Music: A Guide to Books, Articles, and Composer Interviews. His writings on film music have appeared in The Journal of Film Music, the second edition of the "Grove Dictionary of American Music" (Oxford Univ. Press), "Wagner & Cinema" (Indiana Univ. Press), "Film Music 2: History, Theory, Practice," "The Cue Sheet," "Music and the Moving Image," and on the Official website of Dimitri Tiomkin.

He provided the Preface for the electronic editions or "Agnes Moorehead: A Very Private Person" and "Dimitri Tiomkin: A Portrait." He previously compiled and edited "The Films of Mack Sennett" (Scarecrow Press).

Sherk holds a bachelor's degree in music composition from the University of Arizona, where he studied with Robert Muczynski, and a master's from UCLA, where he studied with Roger Bourland and Paul Reale. He worked extensively in music preparation for motion pictures, providing orchestrations for such films as "Dragonheart: A New Beginning," "101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure," and "Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer." His orchestral reconstructions of classic film music can be heard on recordings issued by Koch, Naxos, Silva Screen, Tadlow Music, and Varese Sarabande.

He has contributed liner notes to several soundtrack recordings, including "The Greatest Film Scores of Dimitri Tiomkin," "Paris Under the Stars: Ballet Music for Albertina Rasch," "The Old Man and the Sea," and "Dimitri Tiomkin: From New York to Hollywood" and for the Blu-ray/digibook edition of "Circus World (Le Plus Grand Cirque du Monde).

He serves on the board of the Film Music Foundation.
