James D. D. Smith

James D.D. Smith has a PhD from King's College, University of London, and taught at the University of Bradford as well as the University of Calgary where he was a Scholar in Residence. He is a Commonwealth Scholar, best known for his work Stopping Wars as well as his analysis of the war in Yugoslavia.

In addition, he is a former backhoe operator, ranch hand, balloon-wielding gorilla, bartender, waiter, production editor, hotelier. (Based on reader comments, he may also add writer to that list.) Born in Canada, he has lived in a number of countries including an extended period in the United Kingdom, which holds a special place in his heart; a deep, dark place, but a place nonetheless. He lives with two cats, and probably has a family around the place as well.
