About the Author
J. Terry Young is Professor Emeritus at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where he taught theology for 27 years (1971-1998). Prior to that he served for eight years (1963-1971) as editor of The California Southern Baptist, then a weekly news magazine published by the Southern Baptist Convention of California. While he was a seminary professor, enrollment in his classes was more than 10,000 students who went on to serve primarily as pastors, missionaries, church staff members, and a few as university and seminary professors and presidents.
Young served three churches as pastor. He was pastor of Algoa Baptist Mission at Algoa, Texas. He led this mission congregation to become a church, Algoa First Baptist Church in 1953. He was pastor of First Southern Baptist Church in Chula Vista, California, 1957-1961 and then served as pastor of Village Baptist Church in San Lorenzo, California, 1961-1963.
Though the major portion of his ministry was spent as a professor and writer, Young remained a pastor at heart. He served 23 churches as interim pastor while he was a professor and he was guest preacher/Bible teacher in hundreds of churches. His books and other writings reflected a pastor’s heart.
Young was author of four books:

Weekly editorials in The California Southern Baptist, 1963-1971
Born in Houston, Texas, Young earned the B. A. degree from Baylor University and held two degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, including the Th.D. degree in theology.
