Julie A. Swanson grew up in northern Michigan, the setting for NORTH OF TOMBOY and GOING FOR THE RECORD. As a kid, she enjoyed exploring outside, building forts, pretending, writing poems and stories, woodworking, sports, art, and reading—but she could never find books about anyone who shared her discomfort with being a girl, who loved a sport to the extent she did, or who had a long Polish last name like hers (Polakowski). So she decided she would one day write those books. Her debut novel, Going for the Record, received a starred review from Booklist. Julie lives in Virginia.
