Anthony S. Travis

ANTHONY S. TRAVIS is deputy director of both the Jacques Loeb Centre for the History and Philosophy of the Life Sciences at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer Sheva, and the Sidney M. Edelstein Center for the History and Philosophy of Science, Technology and Medicine at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. He has authored, co-authored and edited over a dozen books and journals, in addition to numerous articles and chapters dealing with science and technology. He was recipient of the 2007 Edelstein Award for Outstanding Achievement in the History of Chemistry, History of Chemistry Division, American Chemical Society. He received the "Choice Outstanding Academic Book Award" (1993) for "The Rainbow Makers: The Origins of the Synthetic Dyestuffs Industry in Western Europe (1993)" and the ABB-Wissenschaftspreis-2000, for "Heinrich Caro and the Creation of Modern Chemical Industry" (with Carsten Reinhardt, 2000). Recent publications include "Dyes Made in America 1915-1980: The Calco Chemical Company, American Cyanamid and the Raritan River" (Jeremy Mills Publishing, 2004), and "On Chariots with Horses of Fire and Iron: The Excursionists and the Narrow Gauge Railroad from Jaffa to Jerusalem" (Magnes Hebrew University Press, 2009).
