Schuyler Rhodes

Schuyler Rhodes has lived on both coasts of the United States, and has worked as a pastor, a retreat director, community activist and a workshop leader and a teacher.

His commitment to his faith and to social justice and peace have propelled him into work around the world with the World Methodist Council, the United Methodist Church and with the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization.

Rhodes writes as one who has been on the ground in the storms and stresses of life. His words are not those of a disinterested observer, but the poetic expression of someone who has embraced the struggle for justice, liberation and healing in a deeply personal way.

His nine books of sermons, liturgical materials and reflections all conspire to pull us down to earth where he believes real faith is not the practice of brittle religion, but the authentic living out of every day in the context of authentic community. Living and working in urban centers most of his life, Rhodes has lived his commitment to serving the poor in New York City and San Francisco. Today he lives in Southern Utah where he writes and travels forth to teach, speak and share.

In his spare time he loves playing in a band with friends and spending time in his back yard garden.
