Aaron McAlexander

Aaron McAlexander, born in the mountains of Patrick County, Virginia, taught college physics and astronomy for many years. After years of engaging in technical writing, he decided to try some creative writing as a relief. He concluded that creative writing may be more fun, but it is just as hard. His latest book "GREASY BEND," is a collection of short stories about adventures in the lives of some real people who lived along the section of U.S. Route 58 that crosses over Lovers Leap Mountain in the real mountain community of Meadows of Dan, Virginia. His other books of short stories, THIS OLD STORE, THE LAST ONE LEAVING MAYBERRY,and SO MUCH TO LEARN, have captured a wide audience in Western Virginia and North Carolina. SO MUCH TO LEARN (2012), is an irreverent look at some educational experiences which were not a part of any planned curriculum. THE LAST ONE LEAVING MAYBERRY (2011) is a collection of tales that tell the story of the original and actual Mayberry, a community that has existed in the mountains of southwestern Virginia for over 150 years. It is located at mile post 180 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. THIS OLD STORE (2014) is a history of the 125 year old Mayberry Store that is still operating in Mayberry, Virginia.
