In Judith Lown's opinion, there is no escape from the vicissitudes of life to compare with a Georgette Heyer Regency Romance. But having read Heyer's entire Regency Oeuvre three times over, Judith decided the time had come to write her own Regency. A Match for Lady Constance (Avalon, 2004) was the result. Of course, one would never presume to compare her writing with the writing of the Incomparable Georgette! But when decisions of tone and character must be made, "What would Heyer do?" is the question Judith asks.
Another important source for Judith's discovery of character and plot is her understanding of Family Systems Theory. A Ph.D. in clinical psychology, Judith uses systems theory to create a back-story, which provides a realistic foundation for motivation of her characters--frivolous, idealistic, manipulative or courageous. As the plot of A Sensible Lady unfolds, the past and present intertwine as the hero and heroine resolve personal and family issues in their search for love.
In addition to writing, Judith is involved in dog rescue. She and her husband, John, currently share their home in Southern California with two rescued sight-hounds: Bingley, a retired racing Greyhound, and Magic, a Scottish Deerhound-Greyhound mix, rescued from a puppy mill in California's High Desert.
John, whose Ph.D is in the Hellenistic Period, teaches Latin and history to support Judith's writing and provide Bingley and Magic with the best of nutritious kibble.
