Gerald Meyer, Ph.D.: Short Bio

Prof. Gerald Meyer began teaching at Hostos Community College (CUNY) in the Fall of 1972 and retired as a full-time faculty member at the end of the Fall 2002 semester. Since then, he has worked as an adjunct and does volunteer work for the college. During his tenure at Hostos, Prof. Meyer served as head of the faculty union (1973-1978), and was a member of the Hostos Senate Executive Committee from its founding until his retirement; he served as coordinator of the Social Science Unit from 1979 until 1992; he was chair or co-chair of the Save Hostos Committee, the Hostos Solidarity Coalition, the Hostos Action Committee, the Hostos AIDS Task Force, the Hostos Voter Registration Campaign, the Retention Committee. He was a member of many committees and task forces including: the college wide curriculum committee, the language integration task force, the Middle States self-studies, as well as serving as faculty adviser to the student government organization, the gay club, and other student organizations. Prof. Meyer has published Vito Marcantonio: Radical Politician 1902-1954; co-edited with Phillip Cannistraro, The Lost World of Italian American Radicalism, and written approximately sixty articles; he also lectures widely.
