Though he resides now in central North Carolina, Odell Myers is a native Texan. Born in Cleburne in 1920, he grew up in Tyler. The day after Pearl Harbor, he received orders to begin cadet training as a pilot and on July 25, 1942, Myers was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the USAAC. His combat experiences ended abruptly on December 4, 1942, when he was shot down and spent the next 900 days in—and occasionally out of —Italian and German POW camps. After the war, Myers became a Technical and Marketing Communications executive in the aerospace industry. He has continued to write since his retirement in 1987. He has completed several novels, and is planning publication of two to three more works in that are scheduled to be published in 2016.
"In a place I may see a story, but in people I see a novel. Some have made it to print, others are pending publication, one is currently being written, and several are still in my head."
Watching, as he works diligently on a new novel. is inspiring and entertaining. As he approaches 96 years of age, he personifies his computer and Word as some adversary who makes decisions irrespective of his wishes, chuckling that -author error' is clearly out of the question. He surfs the internet looking for context and background for his stories, commenting that often he 'gets lost' and has to start over. Undaunted, he continues to progress until the new work is complete. One novel is now out of print, two are recently published, two are in process of publication, and two more are yet to be submitted.
Philosophically, he comments that time is the only obstacle to getting the last novels out of his head and into Word, that is, unless his computer gives out first.
