Lilly Weissbrod

Dr. Lilly Weissbrod (1929-2022) was an independent author with a Ph.D. in Sociology from the London School of Economics.

She was born in 1929 in Austria. After the Nazis seized power in Germany, her family immigrated timely to Palestine.

Merely a high school student but always a pioneer, Lilly joined the Haganah Jewish Resistance Movement during the Jewish insurgency in Palestine. In the war of independence she joined the newly formed Israeli air force, where she met her husband.

Having published dozens of academic articles alongside her books, her writings dig deeply into Israel's most controversial core issues, such as Zionism, Israeli Identity, Israeli-Arab relations, the ethnic religious Shas party, Gush Emunim's ideology and later the disengagement from the Gaza Strip.

Lilly lived her later life in central Israel alongside her son and grandchildren.
