Alan M. "Woody" Schwitzer, Ph.D., is a Licensed Psychologist and past Editor of the Journal of College Counseling. He is a Professor of Counseling at Old Dominion University (ODU) in Norfolk, VA and private consultant. Dr. Schwitzer completed his graduate degrees in Counseling Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and The University of Texas at Austin Counseling & Mental Health Center. Previously he was the Clinical Director of the Tulane University Counseling & Testing Center, and Assistant Professor and Training Director of the James Madison University (JMU) Counseling and Student Development Center.
Dr. Schwitzer specializes in college student health and mental health -- and in teaching diagonsis, case conceptualization, and treatment planning. His journal, magazine, and newspaper articles and other work have been cited more than 2000 times. All of his books are available on Amazon.
Dr. Schwtizer has Chaired the Council of Journal Editors of the American Counseling Association (ACA), serves on the Board of Contributors of About Campus Magazine, and is a Consulting Editor for the Journal of American College Health & Board member of the Journal of College Student Development. In his home state of Virginia, he serves on the Legislative Committee for Psychologists. He has received a variety of lifetime achievemen awards from the American Counseling Association, American College Counseling Association & American College Student Development Association.
Woody lives on the Lafayette River with his wife, red labrador, Ginger, and cat, Rex. He has a private practice focusing on consultation, training, and continuing education.
