Jeffrey Scott McIllwain is an Associate Professor of Public Affairs and Co-Director and Co-Founder of the Graduate Program in Homeland Security at San Diego State University, where he formerly served as the Director for the International Security and Conflict Resolution Program and Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Criminal Justice and Criminology. He is also an Adjunct Faculty Member and Fellow in the Irregular Warfare Program of the Operational Studies Department at Joint Special Operations University. Dr. McIllwain earned his Ph.D. in criminology from The Pennsylvania State University, his M.A. in U.S. diplomatic history and modern East Asian history from The Contemporary History Institute at Ohio University, and his B.A. in international relations, history, and social science from the University of Southern California. His current research focuses on the global history of organized crime and the intersection of organized crime and warfare throughout history.
