Welcome to my author's page! I do hope you'll find something interesting among my selection of books. I shall be very happy and grateful if you write to let me know what you think or put together a review for the Amazon sales page.
I've been writing and teaching almost all my life. I find writing as natural and essential as talking and a critical method for me to make sense of life and share my research and thoughts with others.
'Out of Bounds' is my most recent book and tells the story of the first thirty years of my life - from babyhood in Birmingham, through childhood, schooling, Oxford, teaching; training and work as a probation officer on the streets of Sheffield ('Act Natural is a book about those amazing years), and life on an idyllic farm in rural Kent. It's also about the long struggle to come to terms with being gay and eventually coming out when I was 27.
A lot of my writing has been about healthcare communication (one book of that title), with chapters in edited collections and lots of journal articles too. Those are all for specialist audiences, but 'Out of Bounds,' 'Time to Let Go' (the story of the life and death at a young age of my partner, Roy), and 'Act Natural' are interesting for the intelligent general reader.
I still have a few copies of Act Natural and Time to Let Go. Contact me directly if you'd like to buy one of them.
I hope you'll be tempted to read some of my stuff and to let me know what you think!
