Bob Pierson served as a United Methodist pastor for 50 years, most recently as senior pastor of Christ UMC in Tulsa, OK for 37 years. During that time he lead that mid-town congregation to grow from an average attendance of 200 to over 1,700. He was one of the founders of the Large Church Initiative, a fellowship of 3,000 larger United Methodist churches across the U.S. and he served for 15 years as chair of that organization.
He is currently serving as chairman of the Evangelism Committee and Natural Church Development Committee for the Oklahoma Annual Conference, executive director of Churches Uniting for Growth and Ministry - an ecumenical organization for leaders of larger churches that was founded by Dr. Robert H. Schuller in 1990, church relations director for Oklahoma Wesleyan University, and executive director of Leadership Nexus.
Dr. Pierson is a regular speaker at conferences across the nation and often does one or two day workshops on evangelism, providing information on church growth that is natural, systematic, and effective.
He attended Northwestern State College and graduated with a major in history and minors in psychology & sociology. He received his Masters at Phillips Theological Seminary, and his Doctorate was granted by Oklahoma State University. He is presently on the Executive Board of Perkins School of Theology and teaches part time in the Doctor of Ministry program at California Graduate School of Theology.
He is married and he and his wife Delia have 6 children and 5 grandchildren.
