Dick Atkinson was born, a while back, in Pittsburg, Kansas. Fast-forward to his senior year at University of Missouri, when he pitched a 1-0 win in the College World Series, then signed a bonus contract with the St. Louis Cardinals, pitched a 10-inning playoff win for Houston over Oklahoma City, pitched a no-hitter for Sioux City and played in the Chicago White Sox organization, then on to serious golf, while teaching and coaching at Cochise College in Southeastern Arizona. He won local and state championships, qualified for the USGA Senior Amateur, and was selected to the Arizona Golf Association's senior Goldwater Cup Team five consecutive years, before turning pro in 1995. He has played in pro golf tournaments on both coasts, and from Texas to Michigan. He has made six holes-in-one, but doesn't recommend it, "because you have to buy the drinks". In 2012, Cochise College conferred upon him the honor of Faculty Emeritus. He has "been writing since age five".
