Myrlin A. Hermes was born in California in 1975. Her parents, eccentric world-travelers who had met in a '60s San Francisco experimental theatre troupe, took their four-year-old daughter to live for a year on an ashram in India before settling on the island of Maui, Hawaii, where she was raised. Her father designed and built sets for local theatres, and Myrlin grew up performing on stage, reading Shakespeare from the age of nine.
She has a degree in English Literature and Theatre from Reed College, and studied creative writing with Poet Laureate Andrew Motion at the University of London (Royal Holloway). She has received grants and awards from the Arch and Bruce Brown Foundation, the Institute for Humane Studies, and the Arts Council England, and her poetry has been featured in the Notre Dame Review.She currently lives in Portland, Oregon.
