Contact seller5-star sellerSoft cover. Condition: Good. First edition, first printing of this interdisciplinary collection examining the philosophical and methodological problems involved in applying scientific methods to the study of human beings. Published in the Studies of the Person series and identified on the title page as addressing issues in the philosophy of the human sciences. Edited by William R. Coulson and Carl R. Rogers, the volume brings together contributions from major twentieth-century thinkers including Michael Polanyi, Jacob Bronowski, and Rogers himself. The essays consider questions surrounding behavioral science, psychology, personal experience, scientific objectivity, and the limitations and possibilities of treating human beings as subjects of scientific investigation. The collection is particularly notable for bringing humanistic psychology into conversation with philosophy of science and broader debates over the nature of knowledge in the human sciences. 207 pages. Condition: Good. Original blue and green illustrated wrappers show moderate to substantial rubbing, surface scratches, creasing, edge wear, and wear to corners and extremities. Several longer creases are visible on the front wrapper, with scattered areas of surface loss and rubbing. Spine shows rubbing and small areas of wear. Ink and pencil price or ownership notations appear on the half-title page. Interior shows general age-toning but appears otherwise well preserved in the pages examined. Binding remains sound. Please see photographs for full condition. Collector/Scholarly Appeal: A first edition collection at the intersection of humanistic psychology and philosophy of science, with contributions by Michael Polanyi, Jacob Bronowski, Carl Rogers, and other scholars.
