Karen McWilliams

I am a former elementary teacher and school librarian. I was a librarian on St. Croix, US Virgin Islands when I saw a substantial need for more African-American historical fiction and nonfiction. So, I began writing books kids of all ethnicities would enjoy as they learned more about our country's past. My books are based on numerous slave narratives that can be obtained for free from the Library of Congress archives. Teachers have used my books with their students. I am also a book reviewer for Society of Childrens Book Writers and Illustrators and have published in magazines such as Writer, Writer's Digest, and Independent Publisher. For more information about my writing, please look at my page on facebook.com/K.J.McWilliams. It is the one with the poodle profile. I taught 2nd through 6th grades in California and for the Department of Defense Overseas Schools in Germany (three locations), the Philippine Islands, and Japan. I would love to hear from DODDS teachers and former teachers as well as old friends from the US Virgin Islands and everyplace else.
