Jim Hoskins was born in St. Louis, Missouri in the year 1934. He is now a professor emeritus in theatre at Florida State University's graduate program in acting training in Sarasota, Fl. He is a consultant and choreographer with the Asolo Repertory Theatre. His professional background is extensive in theatre, opera, film and TV and has been seen throughout the world. Mr. Hoskins' book THE DANCES OF SHAKESPEARE is published by Routledg, New York/ London. It is designed for students, directors, and choreographers. His latest book is a memoir called OUR HEARTS WERE KHAKI AND GAY. It is about a young man making career choices and dealing with his sexuality, all within the structure and discipline of the United States Army from 1955 through 1957. The story illustrates his travels from college to show business via the ballroom dance world with partner, Reina, Queen of the Mambo, Mae West's night club act, Army enlistment, Soldier Shows on WGN-TV,Chicago, a winner in The All Army Talent Contest which carried him to the Ed Sullivan TV Show, a world tour in an All-Army revue called "Rolling Along of 1956", Army discharge, and finally a move to Paris to dance at the La Nouvelle Eve. It also deals with the many people he met on his adventures, his misadventures, and the influence they had on his choices in life. A sequel to this memoir is currently being written. It starts in Paris and is called NO FAIRIES, NO MAGIC.
